Pastoral
Care

At Abuja World Academy we believe that pastoral wellbeing is the most important aspect of a student’s development. We recognise that, for our students to thrive, they must be part of a nurturing environment that makes them feel safe, fulfilled and above all, happy.

Pastoral Care at Abuja World Academy underpins every element of school life, ensuring that each student, in every stage of their academic journey, has the confidence and tools to excel.

Our school fosters the well-being of every student through a patient, positive and proactive pastoral system of care. Whilst led by skilled and experienced teachers, pastoral care involves every member of the wider school community in shaping and developing the bright, young minds of our students.

Well-being

Our school fosters the well-being of every student through a patient, positive and proactive pastoral system of care.

Whilst led by skilled and experienced teachers, pastoral care involves every member of the wider school community in shaping and developing the bright, young minds of our students.

At the heart of our carefully constructed system is a team of teachers, senior leaders, medical staff, counsellors, year heads, teaching assistants and administrative staff that focus on the holistic well-being of every student.

Balanced Ecosystem

Our pastoral care programme follows a bespoke PSHE Curriculum, centring on the well-being of every student. We believe in fostering a positive and dynamic environment where students can flourish, with our core values and a common goal at the heart of our daily endeavours.

Resilience

We prepare our students for the wider world by teaching them strategies to handle stress, be resilient and prepare for challenges.

Students are supported with career guidance, internships and mentoring opportunities, and are encouraged to become involved with local and international organisations.

They learn about friendships and relationships and are taught to approach the world they live in with mindfulness and empathy.

House System

The House System at Abuja World Academy plays an integral part in our school’s pastoral care provision. students have the opportunity to connect with children from other classes and year groups. It nurtures a healthy competitive school spirit by encouraging students to participate in a wide range of competitive activities including sports, art, debating and music. Students can enjoy a number of team-building exercises through a wide range of events held throughout the school year.

House meetings with the entire House – comprised of students and staff – are held regularly and are used to congratulate the achievements of House members, prepare for competitions or arrange school-wide duties on a rotational basis. Additionally, students are encouraged to seek support from their fellow Housemates and Form Tutors if they have any worries or concerns.

The House system is interwoven into the pastoral and academic lives of the students, providing a platform for moral, spiritual and intellectual growth. It is an essential element of the pastoral life at Abuja World Academy and guidance from the House group helps individuals develop qualities and competencies that are integral to our aims. Furthermore, it provides a communication network for information to be easily disseminated.

To support students in their academic endeavours, an academic Form Tutor system is embedded into each House. House Staff monitor, encourage and support the academic progress of the students in their House, and the small group sizes along with continuity throughout the years, foster a strong, effective and friendly relationship between the student and tutor.
